Hello, my name is Remy and this is my favorite picture in the world. I am a freelance hair and makeup artist living and working in Honolulu, Hawaii.
I began my career working at a makeup counter for Benefit Cosmetics. This experience gave me my first real exposure to the beauty industry and how this profession combines my love of meeting new people, dressing up, variety, creativity and art. Having been born into a family of creatives surrounded by the fashion industry, it was the perfect fit. After attaining my esthetician’s license from the Cinta Aveda Institute of San Francisco, I began working with Chanel. While there, I was able to train, take art classes and work under celebrity makeup artists. I also have experience working for YSL, Dior, Hourglass, Lululemon, XIX Palms, Bando, Urban Outfitters, Paiko Hawaii and Look Good, Feel Good, a beauty program for cancer patients.
In between working, I continued my education and earned an associates degree in liberal arts and bachelor’s degree in Fashion Design and Merchandising from the University of Hawaii at Manoa. I see my education as a reflection of my passion for learning. Some of my favorite classes were costume and special effects makeup at Kryolan SF, bridal makeup at the Cinta Aveda Institute of San Francisco, natural makeup at Makeup Designory New York, and airbrushing at Temptu New York. I am currently taking a course on the beauty industry from the Fashion Institute of New York. I continue to seek out opportunities in which I can learn and grow as a hair and makeup artist as well as a mother and a person.
My preferred style has been shaped by my combined love of art and my island upbringing. I lean towards natural makeup that enhances beauty but also feels glamorous. My beauty philosophy is simple: Less is more, except when it is not. I do, however, enjoy doing lots of different looks and working closely with photographers and stylists on concept development so that we can achieve the desired creative vision.
Everyone has something beautiful about them. My goal as an artist is to introduce my clients to their own personal beauty, discovering and acknowledging what makes them unique.
